London Calypso Tent: Groovy Soca Night
Hosted by renowned calypsonian King Socrates, and a new initiative of the London Calypso tent, the Groovy Soca Night brought together the quintessential UK Calypso artists and ‘Generation Next’, the UK artists of the new generation.
The night was an opportunity to host the ABC Groovy Monarch, a competition assessing the contenders on criteria such as showmanship, subject matter, vocal delivery, originality and audience engagement.
A few UK Road March contestants participated to the competition (Natia Daniel, DeeVine and Keisha K).
Along with calypsonian G String and soca artist Ms Desire.

And whilst last year’s winner, Nikisha, put a brilliant show with an elegant Arabic theme, it is Santiago that captured the audience with the humour of his song.
Santiago was crowned ABC Groovy Monarch, whilst Nikisha won second place, and G String third place.
The evening was concluded with the energetic performance of Triniboi Joocie, completed with a set by Calypsonian Alexander D Great.
